RL360 continues to evolve.
Our latest RL360 software release, Version 1.2.0, has officially arrived – introducing a highly requested guided Ten Second Triage (TST) session alongside significant improvements to user interaction and overall experience.
As RL360 grows, so does our commitment to ensuring it remains at the forefront of immersive emergency response training.
What Is RL360?
For those new to the platform, RL360 is Ruth Lee’s mixed reality training system, developed in partnership with HTC VIVE. Using advanced XR headset technology, RL360 overlays a responsive digital “skin” onto a real Ruth Lee manikin – bringing it to life while trainees remain fully immersed in their real-world training environment.
It’s not virtual reality. Trainees can still see their simulation bay, ambulance set, training ground or outdoor scenario. What changes is the casualty. The manikin breathes, reacts, speaks, and responds — creating a powerful bridge between practical hands-on training and immersive digital enhancement.

Introducing: Guided Ten Second Triage
Ten Second Triage (TST) is becoming increasingly central to emergency services and rescue team training – and for good reason.
As RL360 Product Manager and Developer Ryan explains:
“Training of Ten Second Triage is at the forefront of lots of training efforts across our emergency services and rescue teams. Why? TST improves the speed of triage and casualty intervention and provides accurate and timely updates on number of casualties, current environment and scene access — all wrapped up in a process that can be learned and understood by rescuers of varying experience and background.”
The new RL360 TST guided session has been designed as an introduction to Ten Second Triage, allowing trainees to learn the principles at a slower, more considered pace.
Rather than immediately testing speed and instinct, this session prioritises understanding.
“Clear visual cues, prompts, and contextual pointers are used throughout to highlight the key components of Ten Second Triage, helping trainees recognise what to look for and why it matters during the initial moments of casualty contact.”
By breaking the process down in a controlled, supportive environment, trainees can build confidence and situational awareness before progressing to more time-critical scenarios – which are already in development.
“This approach supports effective learning, reinforces best practice, and helps trainees fully understand how Ten Second Triage is applied in real-world rescue situations.”
In short: learn it properly first – then test it under pressure.
Major Menu & Interaction Improvements
Version 1.2.0 isn’t just about new content. Significant work has taken place behind the scenes to improve the overall user experience.
The development team has focused on refining navigation and usability throughout the system.
“The development team for RL360 have been busy making changes ‘under-the-bonnet’ with a goal to improve menu navigation and overall user experience.”
Enhancements include:
- Newly designed menu systems
- Improved audio cues
- Clearer text sizing and readability
- Expanded interaction functionality
One of the most exciting upgrades is the continued rollout of hand controls throughout RL360.
“Hand controls are now available throughout RL360, with improved interaction opportunities during our training sessions. These improvements will allow us to roll out more interaction opportunities within RL360, with a particular focus on providing more functionality to the Digital Skins available.”
The removal of controller dependency marks another step forward in making the experience more natural, intuitive, and immersive.
Coming Soon: Primary Survey & Expanded Digital Skin Functionality
The roadmap doesn’t stop here.
The next major update will introduce a guided Primary Survey session, designed to walk trainees through the core processes that underpin this vital initial assessment.
“We hope to have this session finished and available in the coming months.”
In addition, new developments are underway to expand the capability of RL360’s digital patients, including:
- Basic first aid interaction functionality – ideal for community training and outreach
- New digital skins designed to support desensitisation training around major trauma
- Modules supporting deceased body recovery training
These additions will further broaden RL360’s application across emergency response, healthcare, and rescue sectors.
Continuous Development, Included as Standard
One of the key advantages of RL360 is that development doesn’t stand still. Updates like Version 1.2.0 are rolled out to ensure users always benefit from the latest features and improvements.
As the platform evolves, so does its capability – helping trainers deliver increasingly realistic, measurable and immersive learning experiences.
