Social Commitment Continues with the Launch of Volunteer Heroes 2018 and New Defib for Village

After opening up a second factory in Glyndyfrdwy earlier this year, we have shown our commitment to supporting the local community by donating a second defibrillator and funding for lifesaving courses.

With one factory in Corwen, the business recently opened a second manufacturing site in Glyndyfrdwy as demand for our range of rescue training manikins continues to grow globally.

Last year saw the business, which employs more than 30 people, launch a series of social commitment projects, including one named ‘Saving Lives in Corwen’. Continuing this great initiative, Ruth Lee has now purchased a second defibrillator unit to be located in Glyndyfrdwy village hall, close to the site of its new factory.

For the second year running, We have worked closely with the charity Welsh Hearts to source the correct equipment and arrange FREE training for the local community. According to Welsh Hearts, Cardiovascular Disease accounts for a third of all deaths in Wales where the death rate is higher than the majority of countries in Western Europe. Ruth Lee and Welsh Hearts want to make sure that local people feel confident in using the defibrillator in an emergency with the ultimate aim of saving lives of local people.

FREE heart start training will be delivered by Welsh Hearts on Tuesday 20th November at Glyndyfrdwy Village Hall and anyone is welcome to join the sessions which run hourly from 2pm, with the last session starting at 6pm.

Paul McDonnell, Managing Director at Ruth Lee said,

“After the successful launch of our social commitment projects last year, it has been great to continue the good work. Providing life-saving equipment for our local community is a commitment close to our hearts and we are pleased to work with Welsh Hearts again this year to provide training for the local community.”

LIFESAVING COURSES FOR LOCAL PEOPLE – WITH HELP FROM CORWEN LEISURE

In addition to the defibrillator, Ruth Lee Ltd have also donated funds directly to Corwen Leisure, which has allowed them to purchase equipment and resources to deliver a range of courses aimed at savings lives. This will include Paediatric First Aid for parents and carers, plus Junior Medic courses for school children. Additional Water Safety courses will also be available to school swimming groups. Details about the courses on offer can be obtained by contacting Corwen Leisure Centre directly.

Sarah Hampson, Marketing Communications Manager is in charge of the social commitment projects at Ruth Lee and said,

“As a small company based in rural North Wales, it is important that we are part of the community and our social commitment projects have allowed us to look closely at where we can provide support to local people.

The core of what we do at Ruth Lee is in providing equipment which helps to train people to save lives, so it is fitting that we look to do the same in our local community wherever we can.

Thanks go to the people of Glyndyfrdwy for making us feel so welcome since we opened our second manufacturing facility in the village back in July. We also thank the team at Corwen Leisure, who have been great at recommending vital lifesaving courses for the community which will have the largest impact on local people, and of course, to Welsh Hearts for supporting us in providing a second defibrillator.”

A COMMITMENT TO HELPLING THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVICE, LOCALLY, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY

In addition to the local projects, in 2017 Ruth Lee also launched an initiative called “Ruth Lee Volunteer Heroes”, with a specified fund for national and international applicants. This project aims to provide financial support to volunteer rescue organisations and each application was based on individual merit.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were named as 2017 recipients for National Volunteer Heroes, receiving £5,000. The team had suffered a massive fire which destroyed their base and were considered the most ‘in need’; of their support on the occasion.

The International fund was split between 3 teams, Swift Water Rescue Team Toscana in Italy,

and 2 New Zealand teams, Palmerston North Rescue Emergency Support and Hutt City Emergency Response. In addition, rescue training manikins were donated to Geraldine Road Crash Response Team (also in New Zealand) and St Johns Rescue Corps in Malta.

Applications for the 2018 Volunteer Heroes open at this year’s Emergency Services Show in September and has already seen some excellent applications. If you are part of a volunteer rescue team, or know someone who is, encourage them to apply using one of the links below.

A number of manikins were also donated to Rescue Teams across the UK.

Managing Director Paul McDonnell went on to say,

“2017 was the inaugural year for our social commitment projects and we are excited to see the impact they might have this year. For us, it was always about providing support in a meaningful way, which would enhance communities and have a positive impact. We feel that each of the three projects at a local, national and international level have achieved this and we look forward to seeing how they develop in the years to come.

Our business began from humble beginnings and we are a family business at our core. We will continue to supply the very best training products to our customers and it’s pleasing to see that we are able to start providing additional support to the communities we serve.”
