IONIC Rescue joins Protect Medical, expanding the Group’s expertise in water and flood rescue

Protect Medical Group (PMG) continues to expand its specialist rescue and emergency care portfolio with the addition of IONIC Rescue, a UK-based manufacturer and supplier of professional water and flood rescue equipment.

With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, IONIC Rescue brings a wealth of specialist knowledge and an established range of equipment designed for professionals working in challenging water-based environments.

Its arrival is particularly exciting for the UK businesses within the Group. IONIC Rescue joins Ruth Lee Ltd and TSG Associates, meaning there are now three UK-based companies contributing their expertise to the growing international organisation.

For Ruth Lee, it’s another opportunity to be part of a wider network of specialist manufacturers, bringing together complementary skills, experience and products to support emergency responders around the world.

A specialist in water and flood rescue

Based in the UK, IONIC Rescue has spent over 25 years developing and supplying equipment for fire and rescue services, coastguard organisations and other professional rescue teams.

The company specialises in products designed for the unique challenges of working in and around water, with a portfolio spanning personal protective equipment, buoyancy aids, inflatable rescue craft and specialist casualty recovery systems.

Its products are used by professional rescue teams internationally, with established customers and distribution partners in more than 30 countries.

Beyond supplying equipment, IONIC Rescue also has experience in product development, testing, manufacturing, servicing and repairs, giving it a strong understanding of the practical demands placed on rescue equipment throughout its working life.

What’s in the IONIC Rescue range?

IONIC Rescue brings an extensive range of specialist equipment to Protect Medical Group, covering several key areas of professional water and flood rescue.

Protective clothing and drysuits

The range includes professional rescue buoyancy aids, including the Pro Matrix and Rescue Pro, alongside inflatable lifejackets. These are designed to provide the flotation and freedom of movement needed for different water rescue applications.

Inflatable rescue craft and casualty recovery systems

IONIC’s inflatable range includes rescue rafts, craft and specialist systems such as the Titan, Explorer and Transfer sleds. Designed for use in water, flooding, mud and other difficult environments, these products provide additional options for accessing casualties and supporting rescue and evacuation operations.

Water rescue PPE and accessories

The portfolio also includes rescue helmets, specialist boots, gloves and thermal protection, alongside essential equipment such as throwlines, wading poles, reach poles and rescue knives.

IONIC also offers servicing and repair facilities, helping customers keep their equipment maintained and ready for use.

Bringing complementary rescue expertise together

IONIC Rescue’s addition strengthens an already extensive portfolio of specialist products and knowledge within Protect Medical Group.

For Ruth Lee, there are some particularly interesting connections between the companies. We have spent decades working with emergency services and rescue professionals to develop realistic training manikins that help teams prepare for the challenges they may face in real-life incidents.

Our water rescue range, developed in consultation with organisations including the Royal Navy and RNLI, is designed to help teams practise everything from casualty recovery to more complex water-based rescue scenarios.

IONIC’s experience in professional water rescue equipment provides another complementary area of expertise, bringing together the equipment used by rescue personnel in the field with the training solutions that help them prepare for those situations.

Elsewhere within PMG, Rescue Technology provides specialist technical rescue equipment, including rope, water and ice rescue solutions. PAX and Spencer bring expertise in casualty immobilisation, medical bags and patient transport, while Promeba specialises in emergency transport and patient handling equipment.

The Group also includes SÖHNGEN, with its specialist first aid and wound care products, CA-MI, a manufacturer of electromedical devices, and TSG Associates, which develops solutions for mass casualty incident management, triage and casualty evacuation.

Each business has its own specialist focus, but together they cover many of the different challenges faced by emergency responders, from reaching and recovering a casualty to providing treatment and transporting them to safety.

Three UK companies, one growing international Group

The addition of IONIC Rescue marks another important step in the development of Protect Medical Group’s UK presence.

Alongside Ruth Lee Ltd and TSG Associates, IONIC becomes the third UK-based business within the Group, adding further manufacturing experience, technical expertise and established relationships with emergency services and rescue organisations.

For all three businesses, being part of an international group creates opportunities to share knowledge, explore new product development opportunities and reach new markets, while continuing to build on the individual strengths and identities that make each company what it is.

PMG’s wider international network also provides opportunities to introduce complementary products to new customers and distributors, helping specialist solutions reach the professionals who need them.

Looking to the future

We’re delighted to welcome the IONIC Rescue team to Protect Medical Group and look forward to seeing what the future holds.

As the Group continues to grow, we’re excited by the opportunities that closer collaboration between specialist manufacturers can bring, particularly when it comes to developing practical solutions for the people working on the front line of emergency response.
