Icy Training Challenge for Evesham Firefighters

The breadth of work undertaken by our Fire & Rescue Service is varied, with some very specific challenges. In order to be able to perform rescues safely and effectively crews take part in regular training both at their own stations, in their local area or even at specialist training centres.

As a world-leader in rescue training manikins, we love hearing about the variety of training exercises which are dummies are used for. Therefore, we were pleased to receive some photographs and details about some training completed by Evesham Fire Station (Part of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service).

Watch Commander Steve King said,

“We were recently carrying out training for 4 day Water Rescue Technician course. We use various local venues depending on water conditions and levels and the recent cold spell had produced some more challenging conditions, enabling us to practice ice and unstable surface rescues.

The Ruth Lee dummy was deployed many times during the course, including onto the ice, as seen in the photos, enabling the crews to demonstrate and practice different rescue techniques.”
