According to the HSE report for 2014/15 each year in the health and social care sector there are 86,000 self-reported non-fatal workplace injuries, with 27% of these involving lifting and handling.
Workplace injury leads to around 0.7 million working days lost, with one third of ‘over 7-day’ absences due to lifting and handling accidents.
The good news is that statistics show there is a downward trend in incidence rate of all self-reported workplace injury in the health and social care sector. What can YOU do to ensure that this trend continues and your staff avoid workplace accidents caused by lifting and handling?
Effective training can teach your staff to perform necessary tasks in the safest possible manner. In moving and handling exercises, using a ‘live’ volunteer is often impractical and therefore the use of training manikins can be especially useful.
